Winters Boys Basketball
Winters boys basketball coach Grayson Moore said the Blizzards will be “a lot more athletic and faster” this season. He listed speed, athleticism and 3-point shooting as his team’s strengths.
Winters returns five lettermen and four starters from last year’s team that finished 16-17 overall and 3-9 in district. Nolan Martinez, a 6’1” senior guard, is the Blizzard’s top returning scorer, while 6’2” senior center John Pierce led his team in rebounding last year.
The other two returning starters are 5’8” senior guard Nehemiah Alvarado and 5’7” junior guard Jayton Flores, who was the team leader in assists a year ago.
Winters will be in District 8-2A this year with Ballinger, Colorado City, Forsan, Miles and Roscoe Collegiate.

Winters Girls Basketball

The Winters girls basketball team will be “faster and more versatile with more depth,” according to coach Logan Rawles.
The Lady Blizzards return five lettermen and three starters from last year’s team that finished 11-20 overall and 2-10 in district.
Leading the way for Winters will be 5’10” senior post Ayden Jamieson and 5’4” junior guard Laila Aguero.

“Ayden will anchor our defense this season,” Rawles stated. “She is a great vocal leader for us. Laila was our leading scorer last year as a sophomore. She is a quick guard who can score from any spot.”
Aguero averaged 14.9 points and two assists per game a year ago, while Jamieson grabbed 5.5 rebounds per outing.
Rawles is also counting on contributions from 5’2” sophomore guard Lynlee Torrez and 5’6” junior forward Austlyn Gray.
“Lynlee played a lot varsity minutes last season as a freshman,” Rawles added. “She is a shifty guard who can get to the rim. Austlyn came on late in the season and did a lot of really good things. She is very athletic and rebounds the ball well for her size.”
