New Jim Ned boys basketball coach Blake Allen will have the Indians playing an uptempo style this season.
“We will rely on our quickness to be aggressive on defense and push the pace offensively,” Allen said
Jim Ned returns just two starters and five lettermen from last year’s squad that finished 14-11 overall and was 10-4 as the third-place team from District 6-3A. The Indians lost to eventual state semifinalist Brock in the area round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Allen called 5’10” senior guard Xavier Wishert “an explosive penetrator and leader.” Wishert averaged 12.2 points and three assists per game for the Indians after helping lead Jim Ned to the Class 3A Division I state football championship.
Ben Eshelman, a 6’4’ senior post, gives the Indians a big man inside. He averaged six rebounds last season.
A pair of sophomores, 6’2” guard Carter Wood and 5’11” Colt Lindsey, will have to step up and play important roles in the backcourt.
“Carter is a great shooter and rebounder,” Allen said. “Colt has great court vision and is a penetrator.”
Allen, of course, pointed out that the early basketball schedule may change as the Indians are expected to make another deep playoff run in football.
