The Coleman girl’s basketball team returns three starters from last year’s lineup that made the Class 2A playoffs. The Bluekatts were 7-13 overall but 5-4 as the fourth-place team in District 8-2A. Christoval edged Coleman 48-39 in a bi-district playoff game.
The Bluekatts must replace two-time district defensive MVP Abbi Allen, who signed to play volleyball at Hardin-Simmons.
“We will be small but quick,” said Coleman coach Meg Barrett, who emphasized chemistry and an aggressive defense as her team’s strength. She listed her team’s lack of height and an inside game as weakness, however.
Leading the way for Coleman will be 5’6” senior guard Tessa Arnold.
“Tessa is our most experienced senior,” Barrett stated. “We will look to her to kick-start our offense and set the tone for our aggressive style of play.”
Aislyn Cox, a 5’8” senior center, is beginning her third year as a starter for Bluekatts.
“She is our most experienced post player,” Barrett said of Cox. “Her leadership and work ethic should produce much-needed offense in the wake of the graduation of Abbi Allen.”
Katy Elder, a 5’5” sophomore guard, enjoyed an outstanding freshman campaign.
“Katy should emerge as an outside shooting threat in the absence of our leading scorer,” Barrett emphasized. “She earned first-team all-district honors in her freshman season for us, and we will be leaning on her to lead the team.”
