District 13-4A Division II Football Season Outlook: Brownwood

Brownwood enters the 2026 season looking to build on a successful first year under head coach Jeryl Brixey.

The Lions finished 7-5 overall and 3-1 in district in 2025, advancing to the area round of the Class 4A Division I playoffs. Brownwood moves to Class 4A Division II this season and joins a new district.

2025 season: Finished 7-5 overall, 3-1 in district; advanced to the area round of the Class 4A Division I playoffs.

Brownwood returns 16 lettermen, including 5 offensive starters and 7 defensive starters.

Key offensive players:

• Riggs Gray (Jr. QB): Expected to take over at quarterback after moving up from the junior varsity.
• Trent Buffington (Jr. RB): Rushed for 775 yards and 9 TDs last season.
• Conner Cornelius (Sr. WR): Recorded 23 receptions for 375 yards and 5 TDs.
• Hudson Fry (Jr. TE/LB): Caught 8 passes for 163 yards and 2 TDs.

Offensive line leader: Jackson Rainey (Jr. OL).

Defensive leaders:

• Wyatt Wolf (Sr. DB): Recorded 91 tackles and 3 interceptions in 2025.
• Isaac Gonzalez (Sr. LB): Finished with 86 tackles and 5 sacks.
• Christian Gray (Jr. DE): Collected 63 tackles and 1 sack.
• Sirr Beam (Sr. DB): Recorded 39 tackles and 3 interceptions.
• Nick Rodriguez (Sr. CB): Finished with 39 tackles.
• Aiden Jimenez (Jr. CB): Added 14 tackles.

Team outlook: Brixey believes the tradition and culture of the Brownwood program continue to drive success. While the Lions must replace their starting quarterback, a strong defense should provide a solid foundation as Brownwood transitions into Class 4A Division II.

Brownwood competes in District 13-4A Division II with Gatesville, Salado, Waco Connally, Waco La Vega and Waco Robinson.
