Baird enters the 2026 season with plans to continue competing in six-man football while also playing three non-district games against 11-man opponents.
2025 season: Finished 3-7 overall, 2-2 in district.
The Bears return 13 lettermen, including 4 offensive starters and 4 defensive starters.
Key offensive players:
- Tyson Goodwin (So. QB): Passed for 1,287 yards and 14 TDs as a freshman.
- Hayden Chaney (Jr. RB/S): Rushed for 139 yards and 2 TDs last season.
- Mason Kirk (Jr. WR/DB): Caught 12 passes for 294 yards and 7 TDs.
Offensive line leader:
- Lukas Bonenberger (Sr. OL): The 295-pound senior is expected to anchor the line and mentor younger players.
Defensive leaders:
- Hayden Chaney (Jr. S): Recorded 55 tackles, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery.

Team outlook: Coach Jeremy Kirk expects the Bears’ experience in six-man football to help them adapt more quickly this season while continuing to prepare for a possible move to the 11-man ranks.
Baird competes in District 7-1A Division I with Bronte, Paint Rock, Robert Lee, Highland and Santa Anna.
