New Roby coach Douglas Hampton inherits an experienced team as he takes over the Lions’ program. Roby returns four starters and seven lettermen from last year’s team that finished 8-13 overall and 7-5 in District 15-1A.
“We are a year older and return four starters,” said Hampton. “We also have decent height for a Class 1A program with four guys over 6’2”. The team will be learning a new system of defense, so there will obviously be a learning curve. By midseason, and hopefully by district, the boys will be comfortable. We also have to replace our all-district point guard, so it will be point guard by committee until we settle on a player.”
Brennan Faucett, a 5’10” junior guard, is Roby’s top returning scoring leader He averaged 10 points and four assists per game last year.
“Brennan can attack the basket, has good court awareness and can shoot the 3-point shot,” Hampton said.
Eric Reagan, a 6’6” senior, averaged eight rebounds per game. Reagan and 6’3” junior Ethan Hernandez give the Lions a strong inside presence.
“Eric is our best rebounder and can run the floor,” Hampton added. “Ethan can shoot the 3-point shot and can dominate in the paint for his size.”
Roby will also rely on support from 5’10” senior Gunner Helm, 6’3” senior Jake Byers, 5’8” junior Drew Carreon, 5’7” junior Dylan Luan, 5’9” junior Josh Adames, 6’3” junior Tyler Stewart and 5’10” senior Cannon Walker.
“Josh was the quarterback on the football team, and he will be a key defensive player for us,” Hampton stated.
