Eastland girls basketball

November 25, 2021

Eastland girls basketball coach Troy Doyle claimed the Lady Mavericks will be “younger but better” this season. They will certainly be younger with three freshmen and four sophomores expected to play significant roles, according to Doyle, who is in his third year as the head coach at Eastland.

The Lady Mavs will count on the leadership of 5’11” senior guard Kynnley Herrington, who paced the team in both scoring and rebounding last season when Eastland posted a 13-13 overall record and an 8-6 mark in District 8-3A. Eastland, which was the fourth-place team in the district behind Peaster, Brock and Comanche, made the playoffs a year ago but lost to Nocona in the bi-district round.

Herrington is one of two returning starters and five returning lettermen from last year’s team. She will be joined by mostly underclassmen in the lineup, however. That includes 5’8” junior post Micayla Henry, 5’4” sophomore guard Macie Hood and 5’0” freshman guard Kinsey Seabourne.

“Kinsey is very athletic,” Doyle said of Seabourne. “She is a special talent.”

Despite their inexperience, Doyle said the Lady Mavs’ strength is their quickness, and he expects his team to contend for one of the top three playoff spots from District 8-3A again this season.
