Dade Cosby, in his eighth season as the boy’s basketball coach at Cross Plains, believes the experience his team gained last season will pay dividends this year.
“We will be more skilled and experienced,” he said. “Sophomores and juniors now have a year of playoff basketball experience.”
The Buffaloes return three starters and five lettermen from last year’s team that finished 13-11 and advanced to the area round of the Class 1A playoffs. Cross Plains was 7-3 as the runner-up in District 13-1A.
Cosby expects 6’3” junior Ryan Reed to step up as the team’s main offensive threat.
“Ryan has great size, he can handle the ball, shoot and score from any spot on the floor,” Cosby said. Reed averaged 8.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.0 assist per game last season.
Noah Moses, a 5’7” junior point guard, led the team in minutes as a sophomore. He is the team’s top returning scorer with 9.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists per game.
“His experience and ability will be an important factor in the upcoming season,” Cosby added.
Asher Moses, a 5’7” sophomore who averaged 3.0 points per game, earned a starting position late in the year as a freshman.
“He played his best basketball in the playoffs,” Cosby emphasized. “He is a good shooter and great athlete. He will be a veteran on the team as sophomore.”
Alex Parker, a 6’4” sophomore averaged 4.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in just 10 minutes per game as a freshman, but Cosby expects him to be a breakout player for the Buffaloes this season.
