The Ballinger boys basketball team enjoyed an outstanding season in Jeff Holland’s first season as head coach. The Bearcats went 21-5 overall and finished 9-4 as the fourth-place team in District 6-3A behind Wall, San Angelo TLCA and Jim Ned.
Ballinger won its bi-district playoff game before losing to eventual regional semifinalist Peaster in the area round.
The Bearcats return only one starter and just two lettermen from last year’s squad, however.
“This year’s team will be young but with a lot of potential,” said Holland, a former basketball standout at Hardin-Simmons University. “Our biggest weakness will be our inexperience.”
Andrew Delgado, a 6’0” junior guard is Ballinger’s only returning starter. Delgado and Beau Perkins are the Bearcats’ only returning lettermen.
Delgado averaged 3.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game a year ago, while Perkins averaged 2.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in a reserve role for the Bearcats.
