Bangs will field a young volleyball team this fall, according to coach Cheyanne Lovelady, a former Howard Payne University player who is beginning her third season as the head coach at Bangs.
The Lady Dragons return only two starters and four letter winners from last year’s team that finished 5-10 overall and 2-7 in sixth place in the rugged eight-team District 8-3A. Bangs graduated nine letter winners from last year’s squad. Lovelady said a lack of experience will be Bangs’ biggest weakness this season.
Despite the disappointing number of wins a year ago, Bangs has a rich volleyball history. The Lady Dragons have made the playoffs 16 times since 1990, advancing as far as a program-best regional quarterfinals berth in 2005.
There are two seniors returning who Lovelady will be counting on to lead the Lady Dragons this season. Middle blocker Maggie Morales and outside hitter Jacee Miller will be key standouts for the Bangs volleyball team in 2021.
